Oscar
Indian Movie won’t win an Oscar because
India makes about 1500 movies per annum, which is almost half of the total movies made around the world. But how many movies have won an Oscar. Everyone would jump up and say Slumdog Millionaire, but Slumdog Millionaire, Life of Pi and Gandhi which have resulted in Indians winning Oscars were conceptualised, produced and directed by Non-Indians. Everyone in India were flattered by these movies and everyone hoped that these movies would win The Best Picture award in the Oscar,Slumdog Millionaire won this prestigious award. And most celebrated as though this was kind of victory for Indian Movie Industry, but actually its a shame that non of these were completely Indian Movies.
The Oscars was distributed and not Won!
I woke up at 5:30 in the morning to watch 85th Academy Awards aka The Oscars, this was the first time I watched this award ceremony Live, and it was because of three films who were my favorites of 2012, first Life of Pi, followed by Argo, Amour.
The Oscar ceremony was pathetically presented by Seth MacFarlane, the jokes were received with mixed reactions, it was totally insensitive to include boobs song and some jokes on celebrities were lame. Only best thing that happened was Adele’s performance and also Jennifer Hudson and Barbra Streisand were good and others were average.
The Oscar 2013 Winner & Nominations List
Every top movie won awards in one or the other category and looked like awards were distributed and not won based on performance.
The winners in the top category came from 7 different movies:
Best Film – Argo; Ben Affleck & others
Best Director – Life of Pi; Ang Lee
Best Actor – Lincoln; Daniel Day-Lewis
Best Actress – Silver Linings Playbook; Jennifer Lawrence
Best Supporting Actress – Les Miserables; Anna Hathway
Best Supporting Actor – Django Unchained; Christopher Waltz
Best Foreign Film – Amour, Austria (Emmanuelle Riva was in running for Best Actress)
How could one explain, “Argo” won Best Picture Award, but Best Director was won by “Ang Lee”. And I was most disappointed with the Best Actress Award, Jennifer Lawrence won The Oscars but she didn’t deserve to win it when compared with performance of Emmanuelle Riva of “Amour” and Quvenzhane Wallis of “Beast of the Southern Wild.” Were these two deserving actress were denied the chance because their movies had won one among the top honors of the day.Why wasn’t Suraj Sharma from “Life of Pi” wasn’t nominated and Joaquin Phoenix from “The Master” was a total surprise and “Zero Dark Thirty’s” Kathryn Bigelow wasn’t nominated for Best Director.
Lobbying by the production houses to promote their movies was intense and looks like it has paid off, but the question would linger were The Oscars distributed rather being Won.
