The Oscar Winners – And The Oscar Goes To

The only day I woke early is today, living in India and The Oscar 2013 scheduled at 6.00AM in the morning, I had to wake up early to catch a glimpse of it. I had never woken up this early to watch The Oscar, I had a reason for this enthusiasm, 4 of my favorite movies were nominated for the Best Picture, first being Life of Pi closely followed by Argo & Amour.

The Oscar Trophy

I was surprised when I saw the nominations for Best picture, and I had uttered why were these movies got nominated, some weren’t that great to get nominated and definitely looked like production houses had spent huge amounts to get these unworthy movies to get nominated. I was surprised to see Suraj Sharma from Life of Pi not being nominated for Best Actor and how could they miss Kathryn Bigelow who directed Zero Dark Thirty, not being nominated for Best Director. It would not be a surprise if Spielberg’s Lobby muscle doesn’t get him the most Oscars this year for Lincoln, which I thought was mediocre.

The Oscar drama has unfolded, but I just started channel surfing as I am not interested to see the gimmicks and skits that are aired during Oscars. Ah! at last the award give out has started and the proceedings has begun

24. Next Oscar is for Best Picture, and who is reading out the Nominations list and giving an introduction to all the nominated is movies is none other than the Michelle Obama

“Django Unchained”

“Les Miserables”

“Life of Pi”

“Lincoln”

“Silver Linings Playbook”

“Zero Dark Thirty”

And The Oscar goes to “Argo”, well some expected it some weren’t and I was definitely on the weren’t group, Was pinning my hopes on “Beasts of the Southern  Wild”, “Life of Pi” and “Amour”, but “Amour” lost it as soon as it won the “Best Foreign Film”.

Ben Affleck has to say: “I want to acknowledge Steven Spielberg, who is a genius. The other eight films have as much right to be here. I wanna thank Canada, our friends in Iran, my wife – for working on our marriage, it’s the best kind of work and there’s no-one I’d rather work with. I was here 15 years ago [when he won an award for writing Good Will Hunting with Matt Damon] and I had no idea what I was doing. I was just a kid. I never thought I would be back here – because of so many of you who are here tonight. You’ve taught me you have to work harder than you think you do. You can’t hold grudges. It doesn’t matter if you get knocked down in life; you’ve gotta get back up.” He’s choking back tears by the end.
